MONDAY OCTOBER 15

And so it begins! It's 7:30 am and the first dogs are in the ring. I will not be able to post daily winners to protect against influencing of the judging. However, as I am able, I will post some daily info and tidbits. Where possible, I amy even be able to get some pictures posted.

Up today, Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes, Junior Showmanship, the Handling Clinic. The Regional Weight Pull will be at 3:00 today, and results will be posted shortly after the completion of the pull. There are 58 dogs entered at this time, and entries close at 2:30pm.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 16

Yesterday's weight pull ran until about 9:30pm. And it rained. So things were pretty wet by the time it was over. There were 66 dogs entered in Monday's pull, with most of them coming back today for the Octoberfest pull. Mr. Mynx, owned by Scott Bell, pulled the most times body weight at 26.9 times. Jammer, owned by Jim and Cynda Schoesser, pulled the most weight at 2340 pounds. Full results are available here.

A special thank you to the Tri-State Alaskan malamute Club for the very nice glass trophies for Most Weight pulled and Most Times Body Weight. Also, thanks to Hospitality for bringing hot chocolate out to everyone. Just the thing as the night got colder.

Up today is More conformation classes, CGC testing and the Octoberfest Weight Pull.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 17

The Octoberfest Weight Pull saw fewer entries, but still a good number at 46. It rained during setup, but the pull itself saw no rain. The dogs were all a bit tired from the Monday pull, so top weights were a bit lower. Max, owned by John and Helen Schultz had the Top Weight Pulled at 1960 pounds. Most times body weight was pulled by Mr. Tryx, owned by Scott Bell. Hospitality favored us again, this time with a huge bag of popcorn and sodas. Class winners and full results can be seen here.

Obedience and Rally ran late into the night. Dogs were still being judged at 8:30pm. That's a long day for some of them, only to need to get up early today to head to the Rally site by 7:30.

Today officially starts National judging. Obedience, Rally and Agility will be held today. The next weight pull is tomorrow.

THURSDAY OCTOBER 18

Well, it's currently raining at 6:30am, but the forecast shows the rain clearing up in an hour or so, but leaving behind some high winds in the 20-30mph range. Not the worst day for a weight pull, but could be better.

Agility saw a good turnout yesterday, as did obedience and rally. Today brings the start of the National conformation judging, and tonight is the Top 20 parade and banquet.

A lot of pictures have been taken, but I have not had a chance to collect any for the web site. Hopefully Friday I can get some.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 19

We're in day 2 of National conformation judging. There are 345 dogs entered in the show with a total of 574 entries. This is a big show.

Yesterday's weight pull proved to be a success. There were 54 dogs entered. A big THANK YOU to National Dog Food for sponsoring the National Weight Pull, as well as the National Show in general. Ike (Jen Effler-Leveille) won the 80 pound and under class pulling 1800 pounds. The 81-100 pound class was won by Lance (Nancy Russell) who pulled 2200 pounds. The 101-120 pound class was won by Jammer (Jim & Cynda Schoesser) pulling 2600 pounds. Thumper (Jolene Houghtaling) won the 121+ pound class with 2200 pounds. Jammer also pulled the most weight at 2600 pounds, and Lance pulled the most times body weight at 26.19 times. Full results can be seen here.

Tonight is the live auction that will raise money for the National and local Malamute Rescue organizations.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 20

The final day. This is the day everyone has been waiting for. Entrants have come from as far away as Korea, Italy, the UK, Australia, Finland, Spain, Canada, as well as many states here in the US, all vying for the title Best of Breed. Judging starts with the Veteran class. Then there are nearly 100 dogs entered in the Best Of Breed category. Best Puppy will follow. Tonight will be the big banquet celebration.

Last night's live auction raised $6700 to be split between AMCA, the Alaskan Malamute Club of America, and the Alaskan Malamute Research Foundation. The silent auction brought in another $2100. Thank you to all who donated items, and the various clubs that filled the "Challenge Baskets" for the silent auction.

...Later in the day...

Well, it's all over. The groomong room is empty, the show ring dismantled, the food eaten, and awards handed out. I will post official results for both the Regional and National as soon as I receive them. But there are a couple of Thank You's and mentions that should be made. First, thanks to Cynda Schoesser for organizing the Hospitality. They provided breakfast every morning, and snacks every afternoon except the day of Agility. And they made sure the weight pullers were not forgotten either. Thanks to Olympia Resort for the use of the hotel. Thanks to the various Event Chairs, and their stewards for keepng the show running. Thanks to all the volunteers who came to help set up before the show, and came back to tear down at the end. But most importantly, thank you to Linda Goba and Bev Pfeiffer, the Show Chair and Co-Chair, for putting on a great event.

Next year the show moves to Olympia, Washington. Good luck to everyone in 2008.
