SCAMP is operated by a group of volunteers and our foster homes/kennels are scattered throughout the state of Wisconsin. We provide most of the necessary medical care and vaccines before adoption. All dogs are spayed/neutered, and are temperament-tested before adoption. Most abandoned Malamutes come into rescue through no fault of their own. Some of them were surrendered by their owners for various reasons Moving, divorce, allergies, size they just couldn't keep them anymore. Many of them are strays from the animal shelters dogs that were allowed to run loose and then became lost. Most of our dogs range from 3 - 8 years old, with very few puppies. Many people think that adult Malamutes cannot adjust to new families or be housebroken WRONG! Our adoption program wouldn't be if this were true. Example: 5 yr old intact male, kennel dog his entire life, brought into our home, neutered, has become the biggest waterbed potato, great with the kids and cat housebroken too! Talk to anyone who has adopted, you'll be glad you did! When you adopt a grown dog you already know how big they are going to get and their temperament is easily seen. We will not knowingly place a Malamute for adoption that has a temperament problem that cannot be dealt with by average training methods. Our dogs are adaptive, friendly, and most of them are suitable for families with children. |

To adopt a Malamute through SCAMP, we need an application filled out that tells us something about you and your family, what you're looking for in a Mal, and helps us determine what dog will best suit your needs. We will follow up with phone interviews, possible home visits, and then help choose which dog will be right for you. Our adoption donation is $150 for dogs over one year of age and $200 donation for dogs under one. Since we are nonprofit, we receive no funding or outside help. This fee helps to cover medical, housing and feeding of the Mal while in it's foster home. We want you to be happy with your choice so we offer a 30 day trial period. If the dog isn't right for your family, you may return it for a full refund. If, at any time, you cannot keep your Mal, we will take it back! |
